I have been at the same university all year (a top 30 university in NC) and have been trying to convince myself that I love it all year, but that just isn’t the case. I’ve recently realized that the problem isn’t me- the school simply isn’t a good fit for me and I want to transfer. The problem is that the deadline has passed for most schools and all I know is that I won’t be happy go back to school next year. Has anyone been in the same situation and have any advice? Is it difficult to transfer somewhere spring semester? What kinds of universities have April deadlines? Can you apply after deadlines?
If there is a place that you really want to attend, but the application date is passed, email the transfer admissions office and ask if you can still apply. Some places do take late applications.
If you don’t want to return this fall, but don’t know where you’d rather be, take a leave of absence and then use next year to consider an appropriate application list and get your paperwork in on time. You may find that the place you like best takes transfers at second semester, so you might not need to be out of school entirely for a whole year.
