Too Many Colleges to Apply To?

Hey everyone,

One of my goals before the end of the summer is to narrow down my list of colleges to apply to. I'm almost done, but I still feel like I have too many schools. Here is my list. Any advice on which one(s) I should remove, if any?

Carnegie Mellon University
Iowa State University
Milwaukee School of Engineering
Case Western Reserve University
MIT
CalTech
Marquette University
Bradley University
Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology
Kettering University

That's a total of ten schools. Too many? Just right? I'm thinking that, if any schools, I would take Marquette off my list. My main reason for adding it in the first place was because I knew they have good choirs, and their co-op program is very well established. But I know it is religiously affiliated, and I'll probably have to take a bunch of requirements that don't have to do with my engineering major.

Any thoughts? Thanks everyone!

I think 10 schools is on the higher side, but definitely not too many. I’d stick with your list. I don’t know your stats, but you seem to not be applying to a ton of reaches, which is good.

I tried to make a list with a good mix of schools. I’m thinking I’ll still take Marquette off my list, for the reasons stated above. But everything else I will keep.

Any other opinions?

Do you have a safety you are assured of getting into, you can definitely afford, and would be happy to attend?

Erin’s Dad - Yes. That would be Milwaukee School of Engineering. I have already applied, but my test scores are significantly higher than the requirement/average, so I’m not worried at all about being accepted. I have a friend who attends as well, and he mentioned that they will give a good amount of money with high test scores, diversity in extracurriculars, etc.
