Hi everyone,
I'm wondering if colleges get annoyed if I send in too many supplemental materials. I already have two additional recommendations, one from my piano instructor and one from a research mentor. I'm thinking about sending in a research paper I wrote about an experiment I designed (my IB extended essay). Do you think this would be a good idea?
Thanks :)

In general you should only send extra materials if they reveal something substantial about you that isn’t clear from the rest of your portfolio. With that in mind, I wouldn’t send your research paper. Your regular application essays should show to the quality of your writing, the rest of your application should reference your interest in science, and your teacher recommendations should attest to your brilliance and creativity. What more would your IB essay add?

Okay, thanks for the advice. Do you think it would be looked at negatively if I do decide to send it?

What schools are you considering? and your major? If you are planning to major in the area of your research, then yes, definitely send in your paper. Unlike your essay, the might ask someone who knows something of your subject to read the extended essay.

I would only send one extra rec - probably from your research mentor.

Honestly - they will just ignore what they did not want to see. You will be fine.
