Too much for an application

So my parents and I have been discussing my extracurriculars, and they said that too many won't look good for college applications.

My extracurriculars are:
Football (since freshmen year)
Wrestling (since sophomore year)
Track (since freshmen year)
Orchestra (since freshmen year)
Jazz Band (since sophomore year)
Newspaper (since freshman year)

Would that be too many?

If you stick to something and show some passion, that’s great.

If you have so many clubs that you joined just randomly one year and not continue it afterwards, that’s when it might not look good.

You’re an athletic musician with an interest in journalism. You’ve showed consistency in your ECs, so I think you’re fine.

Ahem. Your parents are clueless. That is not too many. You are an athlete who is also interested in music and writing. That is an easy “brand” to sell. Now… if you can’t keep your grades up because you are involved in too many thngs, then you have too many ECs. But otherwise no worries for any level of school. If your parents are worried about this, then possibly you are shooting for the very top schools? For HPYS, these ECs are solid, but not standout. They are just like thousands and thousands of other applicants… they don’t improve your chances really unless you are good enough to play sports there (but taking any of them off the list would not improve your chances, either).
