Too much like a sob story? And other essay questions.

Alright, so I am in the midst of drafting a possible CommonApp essay in which I compare my life to my favorite movie, The Lion King. However, it's reading like more of a poor-me story than I'd like it to. I really like the idea of writing about The Lion King, and I really like the beginning I came up with, but I ended up transitioning to my suicidal-best-friend story, which I don't necessarily want to tell admissions officers. I wanted to compare myself to Rafiki and Simba, not ramble on about the problems I encountered sophomore year.

I'm also thinking of two other possible topics...
- instead of "things on my desk" - "books on my shelf." Having trouble starting on that one, though.
- Influential person: Stephen Colbert. He really got me into politics. And I love him... heheh.

Opinions and advice would be lovely! I can PM the first essay if anyone wants to help regarding transitions that don't lead to "pity me!"

Thanks!

Actually, never mind. I'm scrapping the first bit and starting anew on the Lion King essay.

If you start the Colbert essay, PM me. A fellow fantatic (moi) would be more than willing to help you out.

oooh who is Stephen Colbert?

You Don't Know!?!?

no... sorry? :( the only stephen's i know are stephen hawking and stephen king. and there used to be a guy named stephen at my old school. so who is he!!

Colbert for me too! :)

This is the Colbert report ! nation !
I love that show.

PM me that one ! I'll be helpful

I haven't started it yet but I'll keep you all updated. Glad to see so many "it-getters" around here. :)
