Too rich for fin aid, not rich enough for tuition

Currently im considering these colleges:
Rutgers (In state)
Penn State
Maryland
NYU
Northeastern
UF
U miami
BU

As you may know most of these colleges are known for not giving out fin aid at all.
Im an only child from a upper middle class family and my parents are more than happy to help me pay for college and none of these colleges are a complete no in terms of affordability. However, we have been having financial problems lately and I need more colleges that will give aid/scholarships. Rutgers is the only cheap college on my list and probably the last place I want to go.
What are some good colleges with known comp sci programs and are good at giving aid?

**Also there used to be a thread with a list of colleges giving generous fin aid but i can no longer find it so if anyone knows what im talking about can you link me to it

Lots of colleges give merit aid that is decoupled from financial need. These schools that pay to recruit high-stats kids.

The links are in the pinned threads at the top. But I don’t think you are going to get to combine ‘well kmown’ and aid, except need aid. Northeastern has some large merit. Case Western too.

Rutgers is just below UCLA in “TOP 25 RANKED COMPUTER SCIENCE PROGRAMS WITH THE BEST RETURN ON INVESTMENT (ROI) 2014” See http://www.■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■/computer-science-degrees-best-roi/

What are your stats, intended major, parents’ income, amount they will pay each year for 4 years?

Schools that are “good at giving merit” do not give merit to everyone or even nearly everyone. You need to tell us your stats.

You also need to tell us how much your parents will pay. You say that they will “help” you pay for college. That is not the same as “pay” for college.

Are you aware that YOU can only borrow $5500 for frosh year? If you’re thinking that you can “make up the difference” with loans, you can’t. Your parents would have to cosign for bigger loans, and most parents won’t do that because it’s not a good risk or idea.

Have you taken the ACT/SAT to date?

Why do so many New Jersey high school students (Middle/Upper Class?) look down on Rutgers University? Having lived/worked in New Jersey for a number of years, I have always thought highly of Rutgers. Has “something” change radically to Rutgers over the past 20-years? There are close to 60K students attending Rutgers between the different campuses, yet there seem to be a subset of students who would rather pay significantly higher tuition to attend State Universities outside of New Jersey.

@Jamrock411 - HS students in NJ have been hating on Rutgers for as long as I can remember. Which makes no sense to people who aren’t HS students in NJ. It is just an inexplicable NJ teenager thing.

There’s something about distance that make people think something is better, and not just colleges out of state. At my place of employment, consultants will sometimes come in who have similar credentials as someone already on the staff, but staff members will think that the consultants knowledge base is so much more credible, even when that consultant gives the very same recommendations that the on staff person gives. Silly I know (and a waste of money in my opinion), but that consultant comes from outside so they are believed to have some special expertise that can’t be gained within. If they come from more than 50 miles away—look out!
