Too Risky of an Essay?

The topic for a college app is basically asking about how I will bring both academic and social diversity to the school.

I wanted to write an essay about being a hispanic conservative entering into a liberal dominated academia environment.

Three problems:

  1. I feel as if this topic is too risky. May come off offensive even though that's not my intention at all.
  2. I don't have a background of going to republican rallies or participating in young republican things. Would this be an issue? I'm pretty outspoken and knowledgeable of politics.
  3. I'm going into computer science, so I don't know how much they'll really care about political opinions. It would probably be a more relatable topic going into a government major. (Or would it make me be more diverse being a comp sci major talking about politics?)

Make sure to tie it to your interests that the school provides (major, clubs etc) because it initially sounds like you are only bringing your political views to campus.

I talked it over with my essay coach and she said its a bad idea because it is painting with a broad brush or something
