So I took the new SAT on around the month of September/October and got a 1330. Now this is out of 1600 since I optioned out of the SA portion of the SAT. Anyway, when I got my score I felt and I still feel very disturbed and extremely depressed about my score compared to my friends who got a score of 1400-1500. I just don’t feel very good about myself and my anxiety is seriously bothering me about this score and I just want to know if my score is acceptable for a sophomore or not.
Note: I want to also stay true to the sub-forum group so I also want to know if this score gets me to at least to a decent college such as Emory, UGA, and etc.
Btw, I know I can google what college I go into based on my score, but it’s really hard since the new SAT scores is way different the old SAT which is what the whole ‘College Prep’ websites based off of.
The first “new SAT” was not given until March 5, 2016 and scores have not yet been released. Perhaps you took the new PSAT, which was given last October and has a maximum score of 1520? The PSAT cannot be used for college admission.
You still have time to improve it, and that does put you into the middle 50% of both Emory and UGA in terms of test scores. I’d also like to add that you being “depressed” about your scores is a little bit silly, as you were probably in the ~90th percentile. Good luck when you apply.
Don’t feel so stressed about it. You have more opportunities to retake the SAT or even try the ACT by the time you apply (if you’re a junior I’m assuming), as well as ECs, GPA, your essay, etc. 1330 is not a bad score at all.
Yeah sorry, keep forgetting to point out the PSAT instead of the SAT. Also it’s out of 1520? I always thought that both the SAT and the PSAT were both scaled to 1600. I also thought colleges did look through the PSAT by giving out National Merit Scholarships based on the score, is it not?
The schools do look at your PSAT score. It is the CB that determine if your score makes it to NMF in your state. The schools that give NM scholarships only look at your NMF status. Your PSAT score is below the cut off for any state so it is just a practice test for you and no one will look at it further. You still have time to practice to improve your score. By the way, 1330 or any score that is even just 10 points below the cut off would not make any difference for National Merit status although some may get “commended” which pretty much has no value in college application.
Colleges do not look at PSAT at all! They will know a minimum score for your PSAT if you qualified for one of the National Merit contests. Otherwise, they will not know anything about your PSAT score. CB does not send your actual PSAT score to your college.
Ah gotcha, alright then see everyone after I take the new SAT a year from now.
I got a 1300 on the PSAT, but yet I got a 32 on the ACT. You need to remember that a small portion of students get perfect scores on these exams and that if you haven’t done extensive studying (like many of your friends probably have), your score will be lower. What I can recommend is taking the actual test and doing some practice on your own. Once you get the test back, evaluate what you need to work on and try to find a match school for your actual SAT score! A 1330 is a solid score, and UGA would accept that if you applied with that (if it was an actual SAT score). Don’t worry! You’ll end up at a school that’s the right match for you, based off your scores!
