is college admissions (early decision) outcome rather disappointing this year? or is it just us hotchkiss? there are so many rejects that are not expected

a bit of both

Middlesex has had an outstanding year on ED.

At Choate it has been mixed bag. Did exceedingly well at Columbia, did well at Yale (for Yale standards), got some into Dartmouth, Cornell, Georgetown, Princeton, Tufts, Northwestern, a bunch of others...but some people have been deferred who shouldn't have been, so it has been a weird year.

we did really well for harvard, but only 1 got into yale early, like 10 defered dunno why...pretty good for princeton...but dartmouth was a blow, so is cornell, brown pretty good, columbia is a tat low (like 1)...Penn is average, georgetown a lot as usual...but what i m saying is that some kids would have gone in really didnt get in... or particularly for the legacies and old money.... maybe colleges are trying to move away from that?

Same thing happened at Choate last year, specifically with Penn. Legacies who had given a lot of money had their kids denied. Probably means that legacy is losing value, or at least that legacy wlots of donations can never compensate for a weak application.

I would say Choat was relatively succesful this year considering how tough it is to get into top colleges these days.

I'd say that it isn't that legacies are getting less popular, but that it doesn't mean much unless the legacies parents are active alumni.

Lawrenceville had a good year. 10 people got into Harvard, though Princeton admits were down a bit. About 50% of '07 got in early.

i mean really, for amherst, we have this kid, double legacy, 1500 SATs, honor roll, active donor, recruited by coach ----- REJECTED

whaaaatttt?? he must have been lieing. or he wrote about something so extremely cliche.. and the interviewer was annoyed.. or something. man..... so how do you know all of his stats?

It's bad everywhere this year and will be for a few more years. It's the numbers--so many applying to the same few schools.

I'm pleased--the huge rise is supposed to go down by the year I apply to university. :)

Andover had a typical year. Up at some schools, down at others. 101 out of 227 that applied early got accepted.

haha whats that- like 50 kids into harvard or something? :D

no like 39? for harvard. 19? for yale. a few at the rest. most at good but not super competitive, cutthroat colleges
