top colleges favoring low-income students

I understand that top colleges would like to admit more low-income students, but how can they do this when the admissions office and fin. aid office don't share information?

Well...the first document of your file that the adcoms see has information about yor parents' backgrounds and jobs. That is how they can tell how underprivileged you are, and they use that to judge your scores, etc.

Waiver the red flag..........then they can check your zipcode....I mean the ways to tell go on and on.......school district/name.....or a kid from a Prep who has entered thru PepForPrep. They have your essay also.....tell your story. They want high achievers who are low income......NOT just low income.

The big colorful fee waiver attached to your application (or supplemental material)

low-income status can also be conveyed in your application essays.
