I’m going to be traveling for competitions most of the winter so interviewing might not be an option. So I’m wondering which top colleges don’t require admissions interviews. I know Johns Hopkins and UChicago don’t but are there any more? Thanks!
Few colleges ‘require’ interviews. Many that offer interviews mostly vary from being recommended to being optional.
Amherst and Williams are two top schools that don’t offer interviews.
Davidson doesn’t offer interviews.
Have a look at a school’s Common Data Set section C7 for info on interviews.
At MANY schools the interview is optional and something the applicant requests. As suggested above, look at the common data set. Also look at whether or not demonstrated interest is important for your schools and ask yourself if you have demonstrated interest in the school or if requesting/having an interview would help.
My D traveled a lot for competitions in the winter and still fit in a few interviews. Usually you schedule them at a time that is convenient for you and the interviewer (assuming it’s an alum interview). Sometimes my D’s were on the weekends but other times they were in the evenings. My D requested an interview at a “top” school but did not get one. Demonstrated interest is supposedly important there and she had never visited campus or anything. But she was admitted anyway.
One thing about interviews is that some can be done over the phone so why preferable, it doesn’t have to be in-person. My D20 just had a really good Tulane alum interview remotely.
@socaldad2002 Is it Skype or FaceTime. Or just a call ?
It was just a phone call and the interviewer was great. They talked for 45 minutes. We live in LA so I was surprised that there wasn’t an in-person interview but Tulane is a very popular college option here and maybe alums were spread too thin? Either way, I don’t think having the interview as a phone call was detrimental in anyway. Just one family’s experience.
That’s great. Good luck with Tulane. It’s crazy popular. Great reputation in New England.
This seems to me to be a very bad criteria to pick a college to apply. As others have said, there are ways of doing it.
Institutions that require interviews have ways of working things out. In person, but out of town at the place where you have to be for a competition could be one of them.
There are many institutions that don’t require interviews. An interview won’t break or make your decision anyways unless you are a terrible person and interview horribly lol
