Just curious as to whether or not there's an official list of film school rankings in California and the US. I've hunted online, but to no avail. From what I've gathered, though, it seems that most people agree that AFI, USC, UCLA, NYU, Chapman, Columbia, and FSU are among the top.

If there's no official list, what schools, in your opinion, are the top film schools in California? The United States?

Thanks very much for your help. I just got admitted into Chapman University's film school and have heard very good things about it. I will probably end up attending Chapman regardless of its ranking, but would like to see how it stands in relation to other film schools in California and the US.

Thanks for the input. I’ve heard great things about LMU, but I guess I forgot to list it because it wasn’t included in the “Big 6” on the Studentfilms forum.

I understand that UCLA doesn’t accept undergrads, and I also think that AFI doesn’t (not sure, don’t quote me on this!). I should have been more specific in separation between undergrad and graduate schools.

As of three years ago, UCLA did have an undergrad film production program, but students couldn’t be accepted into the film major until their junior year. This means that an aspiring film major would enter UCLA as a freshman not knowing if he or she would ultimately be accepted into the major of choice.
