Top Schools Low Scores

jiggle, if your personality shines through in your applications as clearly as it does in these posts, then no, definitely not.

If you do not have anything helpful to say please do not post anything else on my threads. Thank you.

Your sister’s scores from 4 years ago aren’t relevant when discussing the chances of this year’s students. Every year is a whole new ball game. Your chances of acceptance will be based on your stats and profile. Do you have something that sets you apart that colleges might want? The ability to be full pay is an advantage, but don’t rely on it. And make sure you apply to an academic safety.

You can check my other chance me thread and tell me what you think. I definitely applied to safety schools!

Int’ls with modest stats who are FULL PAY certainly can get into some schools…not likely vies, but other schools

Int’ls with modest stats who want to get into the Ivys probably need a BIG hook.

THAT IS NOT the same as suggesting that some famous child got in ONLY because of hook. There are famous peple who get in AND have the stats.

Sure, there are famous children that get in and have the stats and thousands more that have the stats, are not famous and don’t get in. What is the deciding difference? Some times, deep pocket or famous parents.

Hear, hear.

Only kid I know was a member of the Cherokee Nation and was one heck of a football player, had a 27 ACT. Was all set to go to Cornell until Bama came along…

What I meant is that someone who has a complete app, 4.0 gpa, great essays, letters of rec, ec’s, and hooks but lacks the score, how much of a chance do they have? Or did any ppl with a similar situation get in?

Depends on the hook but yes they have a real chance.
(Note that the hook would need to be news-worthy for a student from India, China, or South Korea, because students there are trained to take standardized testing.)

There is a common misconception that recruited athletes at Ivy League schools or other highly ranked universities, have low SAT/ACT scores and/or GPA. The two kids from my son’s private, highly ranked high schools were URM, with very high STA scores (2200+) and GPA. They were national achievement scholarship finalists and were outstanding students (ranked in the top 5% of their 500+ graduating class). One got recruited at Harvard to play football, while the other was recruited at Washington University in St Louis. Both could have gotten in ANY university in the US with their academic stats (without any hook).

No I’m middle eastern. We’re not trained for these things, at all haha

Ok thanks for your feedback

A football player at my school got into Harvard with a SAT score of 1600.

Whoa how was his gpa, ec’s… etc
