what are the top three best fields of study at brown? Like what are the fields of study that Brown awards the most degrees in. I know Biology is the first but is that it Biology BS or BA?

I’ve heard Brown has one of the strongest English programs in the nation if that helps any.

Most degrees? Probably Economics, Engineering (total, not individual Chemical, Electrical, etc.), and Political Science, if I had to guess.

They have dominant programs in Applied Math, Classics, and Geology, though.

International Relations is big, too.

their computer science is considered one of the best departments overall and maybe the best science department

YAY GEOLOGY!!! I just e-mailed Professor Tullis saying that I was interested in studying geology and she, honestly, was so incredibly nice and am sure I’m taking GEOL 0220 so I can get her as my freshman adviser :)

Religious Studies is an extremely solid department (and one of Brown’s best humanities departments) with some of the most well regarded scholars in the world.

While this is not necessary indicative of strength, the top three fields at Brown are Biology, History, and IR and have been for some time.

Check on the Brown webpage and search for OIR (Office of Institutional Research) to see the breakdown in degrees awarded by concentration.

I’ve always heard Geology, History, International Relations, Comp Sci, Applied Math, and Classics are the “best” departments, but I’m sure every department at Brown is of relatively similar (high) quality.

thanks so much!

neuroscience, cs, applied math, econ, ir, literary arts, egyptology…most departments are good. too close to rank or name top 3. look into the specifics of a department you are interested in and find out if its philosophy and aims suit your interests. That’s what matters.
