How do schools like the ivy’s etc… view taking a “period off”. I have it in quotations because on my schedule it will say dual enrollment but i can take the de class whenever throughout the week. Here is my tentative schedule:
AP Calculus AB
AP Biology
AP Chemistry
AP European History
AP Macroeconomics/AP Gov’t(Each 1 semester)
FLVS ON CAMPUS(AP French Language and Culture online because the french teacher at school doesn’t take students to took french 2 online into AP)
Dual Enrollment-7th period.
So will those top colleges view it as slacking off. Also, how will I explain to them why I’m taking AP French online when my school offers it? Thanks
I’d use the “additional information” section of the commonapp to explain anything you might need to. Generally periods off are viewed in the context of how you are using them (job, internship, ECs, etc.). I’m in a class of 500 and I don’t know anyone taking a full (8 period) schedule. Every class that you’re taking is AP and above, in no way would that be viewed as slacking off. If anything I’d just make sure you’re capable of maintaining whatever GPA you currently have, since Senior year it becomes infinitely harder to care you’re so close to the end.
Also out of curiosity, if you’re worried about how colleges view your schedule, where’s English? Don’t most high schools require 4 years?
@Matt846 Thanks for your response! As far as english, I dual enrolled enc1101 last summer for my english credit this year, and I’m dual enrolling en1102 for my english credit senior year.
7th period DE is not “free period” on the days when you don’t have class - even though college classes don’t meet every day, they more than make up for it in pace and depth of content, so that you’ll be in the library during that 7th period :p.
So, 7th period DE is not seen as a free period.
