Top university football rivalries in Florida

Btw, the reason why UF doesn’t play UM every year is because they will lose out on a home game every other year.

^Feeble excuse, gfg.

At some point USF and UCF will surely play football again. One not impossible scenario is UCF joining USF’s Big East Conference and getting games with USF. Another scenario is some semi-political pressure if USF’s grand football scheme doesn’t include willingly scheduling UCF. Another scenario is that it just makes too much common sense to play each other.

USF in its short eleven year football history has done its fair share to promote intra-state football games. USF has already played or scheduled Miami, FSU, Florida, FAMU, FIU, UCF, FAU. FAMU is probably going to open USF’s 2011 season in Tampa–the contract is all but signed. The only state of Florida team that USF probably will not be able to get play in Tampa for maybe decades is UF. USF is playing UFat Florida Field at least twice in next few years. UF probably feels they can easily beat USF in the Swamp, but doesn’t need to risk an upset in Tampa. Besides UF doesn’t travel for out of conference games much other than FSU and Miami once in awhile. UF doesn’t need anymore money either playing games where they might unnecessarily get upset like USF in Tampa.

Anyway, I’m getting itchy for football fun to begin. The state of Florida has some of the best college football in the USA. Don’t forget USF is coming up to Tallahassee for Sept. game.

Amen to that.

Did you see Urban Meyer was just given a $4M/year contract for 6 years? Let’s hope his success didn’t rest on Dan Mullens. (Just sayin’)

That could be very significant, but may take some cycles to appear.

Not if Meyer uses the Five-wide. Geez, in 2007 Tebow had to scramble every play because of it. Last year, Mullens modified it leaving only 4 receivers out there. Worked much better for Tebow - gave him room to throw. About had a heart attack when they went back to the Five-wide for the National Championship. (Thought we were done with it, but nooooo. Had to use it in the most important game of the year.) Meyer loves the Five-wide. Let’s hope our new offensive coordinator sees the folly in using the Five-wide in the SEC.

Guess Georgia/Florida could kinda qualify as a big Florida college rivalry since its always played in Jax. FAMU/Bethune-Cookman is a big rivalry. Not sure how often they play, but FAU and FIU would seem like a natural, along with mixups with UM down in south Florida.

Was checking when UF’s last out of state non-SEC regular season game was. In 1991 UF traveled to Syracuse and got beat 38-21…18 years ago!
