TOPS cap

Curious about current LSU students', and future, feelings about the proposed cap on TOPS at 1600 a semester.

If TOPS were cut, would you still apply/go to LSU?

Hoping this doesn't happen. Too many kids would probably not even attend college if it were.

I will still probably go to LSU. I mean paying tuition and fees won’t be that bad, because the National Scholars award will pay for that. I would still like to have TOPS though. There are so many kids who need it to go to college. I think if the TOPS cap would pass there would be a lot of upset people.

However, other universities in LA would benefit greatly if they decided to pass the TOPS cap.

If TOPS were capped at $1600, Louisiana would just lose even more of its bright students. Brain drain is a already a huge problem and it doesn’t need to get worse.

No cuts should be made to TOPS. If money from the program needs to be cut, then the requirements should be raised. The state is already trying to do this with its new Core 4 initiative.

FYI, the bill capping TOPS was struck down in the Senate today.

That’s a relief!

I think it would be a positive thing if it got rid of some students who never took it seriously in the first place. Some people seem only to be there because of TOPS and have no intention of finishing their studies.
