Torn between schools

Delineate who is responsible for the loans. If she is willing to share the OOS burden, definitively then PSU.If not then this will simmer and may become a very sore point.

I got that degree - transferred to the cheap in-state school once I realized that’s what I wanted to major in b/c you don’t make enough $$$ in that field to justify a huge tuition nor is it necessary to have the prestige of a college to get the jobs.

How about West Virginia University? Great school spirit, low OOS tuition, guaranteed scholarship for minimum SAT score and respected forensic sciences program.

Everyones’s financial situation is different. We are in the process of dealing with these questions with our senior D. My wife and I have decided we are willing to contribute a set amount of money equalling what we have already saved and what we are willing to contribute over the next four years. The rest must be covered by D either by scholarships, financial aid, summer work, coops, work study or federal student loans that she can get (app. $27000). She may resent us now, however, I think that is better than us resenting her for years as we struggle in retirement or God forbid she is unable to pay back her loans and spend our retirement years paying back her loans. She has been accepted into 2 state schools which have given her enough merit scholarships that she would have to borrow no money to attend. They are probably her last choices but unless the money becomes available from the other schools she has applied to they will be her choices. Good luck.
