does anyone know if uva has pooled off any applicants from CLAS? i just want them to send me a letter to make it official. but in my heart, i will always be a wahoo :)

hey shoebox, if you dont mind me asking, what made you decide on transferring to uva?

If you don't mind, go back and look at the Fall 07 Transfer thread. All my rants are on there, and the reasons really never changed.

Short story: I wanted a more well-rounded engineering curriculum. Also, after I started visiting, I realized UVA was a better home for me. Never changed my mind since then. Also, the shootings and some personal things that were compounded by the shooting was an influence. Not THE influence, and not a huge factor, but it did move me from 95% sure I wanted to move to 99.999%.

uvawhoo, I called the other day and they told many letters for clas waitlisters have already been sent. I havn't received one yet either. I was told they won't send every letter out till the week of June 17/18ish.

vernojr, are the letters saying that the CLAS waitlisted students didnt get in? If it does, then we still have a chance! But i highly doubt it :(

who really knows. I was just told some acceptance letters have already been sent and the admissions process is still rolling.

transfermer answered this question today on the blog

That blog is for transfers, not first years. Transfer WL notifications are rolling, not first years. Dean J's blog said that CLAS is most likely full for first years, but not for the other schools. It's different for transfers because they're taking ~75 people for CLAS and SEAS.

if you all don't get in off the waitlist, what are yall going to do? just go back to your current schools?

if i dont get in ill go to tech and see how it is.. but im definitely going to uva somehow either transfer or graduate school because i think i will be a business major. what are ya'll plans??

I saw a question posted about VCCS's articulation agreement with UVa. IMO, I would still go to Tech.

I was recently accepted into UVA as a VCCS transfer - not under the agreement, just through brute force. I had no choice in what college I attended first because I dropped out of highschool and obtained my GED, thus resulting in very few options for my college education.

The reason I would shy away from VCCS schools is because you are already accepted into Tech. What if you realize you like Tech a whole lot? you wouldn't have had that opportunity had you attended a VCCS school. Also, I feel that two years a Virginia Tech will better prepare you for a UVA education. I'm not saying that VCCS schools are lacking in difficulty, but I have taken classes taught by adjunct (part-time) professors that were less that par...not many, but they exist.

Upon assessing your situation at take after awhile, you may still want to transfer to UVA. WRITE GREAT ESSAYS. Ill say it again...WRITE GREAT ESSAYS. Get personal - get raw - show them exactly who you are without making grammatical errors ;). Assuming you get good grades, this will be the deciding factor.

Good luck in your decision and at Tech - take advantage of the Tech education...its a great one.

ahhh they send out letters next week! i hope im one of those people who are kept for the "melt" process! But yes, i signed up for VT courses on tuesday, and i am going to make sure i take the opportunities that are open for me at tech. thanks for all the support guys, ill keep you updated!

Do yall think anonymous posts on the uva blog are truly anonymous? As in can they really tell who submitted them? I'm new to blogging I don't know how this stuff really works.

we'll i got my letter saturday, and looks like im heading to tech. They're over enrolled. But im still waiting for UNC's. But as for UVa, it was nice knowing you, maybe we'll keep in touch in the future :) Thanks for all the moral support guys! I really appreciate it and I know I'm not the only one struggling but keep your head up. But now I can focus on tech. Again, thank you all and best of luck to the class of 2012!!!!

Thanks for the update uvawhoo. I know you're still waiting to hear from UNC, but if in the end VT is your destination, you're going in with a fantastic attitude. I'm sure you'll do very well and have a great experience. :)

Hey uvawhoo - great attitude you have. All the best!! :)

uvawhoo,
Tech. is a great school!! It has a beautiful campus, fun school spirit, and great academics. Best of luck to you. Your "focus" on Tech. is important at this time. I bet you'll love it!!

hey guys now that i am more focused in tech i have no clue what to do. Anyways as of now i am in university studies. but i want to do business/accounting so can i change majors? and will i be in pamplin automatically or do i have to do something for that? i am also asking about what classes i should take for my major (business). and does anyone know which housing students get? i really want suites but is there a way i can secure that? i signed the housing contracts months ago. ive taken ap calc and ap stats this year and was wondering what math classes i should take. oh and lastly pc or mac? thanks for any advice, i look forward to hearing them!

oh i also really like biology but i heard that the biology teacher at tech sucks.. i mean reaaaallly sucks. any advice shoebox? bc u were once a hokie! :) also if i choose to transfer.. what classes should i take to impress the admission office at uva (i like challenging courses) and how many credits do i need?

I don't know much about Pamplin, sorry.
As for housing, it's totally random. You'll most likely be living with other freshmen, but I was in "upperclass" housing where there was a mix of freshmen and sophmores and a few juniors. It was right on the drillfield, it was pretty awesome. I doubt you'd get a suite, I'm pretty sure they don't give them to freshmen unless you're in the leadership program (which might be a good thing, I've heard good things about it)
As for classes, they'll tell you at orientation what you should take. It all depends on AP scores.
PC or Mac is your preference...look up and research both. I know Pamplin is beginning to require tablets, so I would look into a tablet. If you end up staying at VT, you'd want to be on par with others. Don't plan to transfer, plan to do whatever you need to do assuming you'll stay.
Have no idea about bio nor teachers.
As for classes, pick challenging ones. I took 14 credits first semester, 17 second, but I had AP credit and taking classes outside of the e-school there is difficult for e-schoolers. I would take 15-16 first semester, the same next semester unless you fly through, then consider 17. Look at UVA transfer pre-reqs, try to fill as many as you can. Also, jsut because you get AP credit at VT doesn't mean it'll transfer to UVA. So don't retake those classes, but don't assume if you go in with 21 you'll come out with 21 if you do transfer.
