any pro/cons? which are the best?

methinks toshibas are expensive. They're pretty and can come pretty light. Their build quality is pretty good. Most peopel I know with Toshibas are happy. Which is best? Depends on your needs. Please elaborate what you want ur lappie for? gaming, muzac, etc? I guess the gurus are slow lapping this thread up.

I've only had mine a few months, but I have had no problems (so far, at least).

One of the concerns I had with my Fujitsu laptop was that it tended to heat up (especially because the fan was on the bottom), it would get practically scalding after a few hours of use. My Toshiba hasn't had that problem and it is pretty light like Eclipsed said.

Toshiba laptops are wonderful from what I have heard. I plan to buy one in the week few days.

I have a Toshiba. No real problems, except I need more ram, but that's not the laptop's fault. The top lid is plastic for mine, so that seems a bit cheap. Other than that, it runs fine for what I need.

I have a toshiba laptop which has given me tons of problems since day one. apparently toshiba forgot to put some kind of antistatic thing in millions of their laptops, which causes the computer to randomly restart basically any time you move it. i had a problem with the power to the computer which was just one of those fluke issues, but when i sent it into the service center they also had to insert the missing static thing. which was back ordered. for 3 months. and they refused to send it back to me until this thing was dealt with. so i had no computer for my ENTIRE WINTER TERM. i'm ****ed off at toshiba. their customer service is despicable. and now my memory has some kind of problem that causes windows to crash. i'm very good to my computer, it's nothing i did. it's their fault.

but i'm probably an exception...consumer reports likes toshiba.

i have a toshiba laptop and i love it... i really don't know anyone who has any problems with them.

Same here: I have two Toshiba laptops. No problems at all. My nephew'
s M205 Tablet has had no problems in over a year at school.

If you had a problem with a Toshiba or any other laptop, it would be helpful to post your model. Every manufacturer produces a dud sometimes...

For the person who said they are pricey: it really depends. I ended up getting mine for about the half the price I would had to pay for a comparable Dell system.

Toshiba laptops are supposedly going downhill. Although you may hear people say they love their Toshiba is could be because they have an older model, when they were well-made. I only have experience with the Satellite series. I had an A70. It was fine but after a month it started to freeze randomly, many times a day. If you do research you'll find that many MANY people had this exact problem. Like mentioned above, it has to do with static. The speaker covers weren't grounded.

A new Satellite model, the M40 recently came out and I thought I'd research it, but some people reported the freezing issue in this laptop as well as a high pitched noise. I would absolutely love to have the M40, but because of those problems it would be a waste.

That said, it is possible that the Satellite laptops have gone through a revision and these problems have been fixed, but I would be very cautious. Good luck!

Mine's a satellite and it's perfectly fine... i think it just depends.

I have a Satellite A75, and I also had the freezing problem about 3 months after I bought it. I had to reboot the computer, but now I don't have any problems. The only thing that I really dislike about the computer is that it has a Pentium 4 processor... should have listened to my dad and got a Pentium M.

I'd rank Toshibas as excellent, certainly better than HP/Compaq and some Dells. I don't know if all Toshibas have this one problem, but I can't help notice that my friend's M35 has a very hot touchpad. (but he uses an external mouse, so he doesn't care)

I've had no problems with my M35.

same here, my M35 has been very good to me.

The laptop with the issues is a Satellite A75 S206

i've had my satellite m40 for a week now, and it's lovely. i'm crossing my fingers that i don't get that random freezing in a few months. its seems to me that computers are like clothes... in theory every two of the same style should be the same. but in reality each one is cut slightly different. so two people with the exact same laptop might get different results. that's pretty crappy, but it's how it goes with technology; it's not 100%. that said, i love my new computer.

How are the qosmio laptops?

I have had a Toshiba A35 model for almost a year now and the only real problem I've had with it is now it's heating up ferociously for no reason. I'm pondering whether to buy a fan base for it or just upgrade...but otherwise me+Toshiba=happiness

I have a Satellite M35, and it's great. Well, sort of great. Its fan started getting noisy, its keyboard died, and its power cord died within its first year. However, my computer gets a lot of abuse, since I carry it everywhere every day. Since those were mechanical-type failures, I'm willing to cut them some slack.

HOWEVER, customer service is despicable. It took them four weeks to fix these things, four weeks in which I couldn't do any classwork besides reading in my room. I think this is true with almost any computer company now, though, unless you buy the superdeluxe warranty that includes like five years of in-home service.
