Not sure why this Feb 2013 article says '16 apps were 20,050. If that’s the right number then for apps decline would be -0.75%, but I will stick with what is on the official Georgetown website.

*NOTE- if the reported 2700 does not include ED apps (its not clear), then I have calculated too low a number. Assuming the same ED apps as last year, 148, the growth/decline would be almost 0 at approximately -0.2%. Given the lack of clarity in the text, I am taking an educated guess here- I rarely see RD-only numbers put forth. My apologies to Whitman if I am wrong.

Erratum – BU numbers back up. I had interpretted a “haircut” in the number of apps based upon a report posted back on post #251. But this latest article below takes their number back up to 52k+ which was the original nujmber a month or two ago.

Upon re-reading the post 251 article, I see that I erred because the 51k apps cited was for RD applicants only, hence, the correct total apps stats are:

'16 applications: 31,874

According to the linked CDS, 2016 applications totaled 38,174.

I’ve been looking for UIUC’s numbers.
Can’t seem to find much though

Just spent the last 48 hours at UCSB. Applications to the College of Engineering have been increasing about 10% per year for the last 3 years - 10,000 this year for an incoming UG class of 300 (4000 for ME - the most competitive major which is slated to have a freshman class of 65!) . Apps to Letters and Sciences are on the decrease - about 9% less this year. While the app numbers is of interest, the real question, and value to applicants, is what majors are of increasing interest.

From all indications, the last 3 years have seen an huge surge in applications to engineering.

good stuff, thank you Descartesz & noimagination. Ironically I was looking for Carleton press releases yesterday and Minn releases earlier today without luck.

I will back-calculate the Carleton apps number from their CDS. I think the Minn match up problem relates to what I’ve seen some other big state schools do…they measure apps growth not from last year’s total, but last year’s apps count at that particular calendar date. I will recalculate a conservative % increase (“and counting”) using the 41,000 and the CDS total for '16.

uofiapplicant- based upon the August '12 release of last’s year’s UIUC applications data, I suspect we won’t see anything soon. FYI, here are two articles on last year and some history of acceptance rates:
