Totally Confused about Pre-Med!

Can someone please tell me what the difference in between the regular study that a regular goes through and a pre-med student. I am interesting in becoming a physician. How long is the study for before the admission to med school?
I am in Brooklyn, so I am also looking for schools that will be within the Manhattan area as for pre med. I was looking over at Lehman, it is a CUNY school , and the offer pre med. What do you guys think??

Thankss =)

There is no diff. except you will need certain number of credits for cetain classes to meet Med. School requirements. Just google and see for yourself. You can be absolutely any major(s) in combo with any minor(s).

I see. I am just worried that I wont be able to take it, because it is deadly hard!!

“Pre-med” is not a major at colleges, it simply describes your intention and classes you are required to take. You could be a computer science major at your university and still be pre med.

Of course your classes will be difficult… you are trying to become a doctor. Do you really want those physicians and surgeons you rely on to save your life to be people who are not educated? Consequently, do you want those people to also have the attitude of “I won’t take that class because it isn’t an easy A”? That’s why what you see on any medical forum is intense… there are reasons for it.

Below are requirements of medical school… they accompany the courses that are required by your major.

General requirements of Med School:

Two (2) semesters: General Chemistry

Two (2) semesters: Organic Chemistry

Two (2) semesters: Introductory Biology

Two (2) semesters: Introductory Physics

Two (2) semesters: English

^correction-“pre-med” is actually a major at *some colleges

From CUNY’s website:

Lehman College majors:

Some colleges have pre-medical studies. U of A, for example, does or did. ASU did when I was a freshman but faded it out.
