Hey guys, now that this process is over, I'm writing a skit for a playwrighting contest about hilarious tour guide moments. First of all, I think tour guides are amazing people who work really hard to create a great experience and first impression for prospective students, and I'm not trying to make fun of them AT ALL! I just think it's an excellent opportunity to have fun with a skit. If you have had a tour guide do something really funny and unexpected, or had a tour-guide-in-training with you who was correcting the tour guide or any other amusing tour guide moment, feel free to chime in! Also, please post if your grandparents happened to be tagging along for the tour and if they made any funny little comments as you went along.

Example:

Tour guide: And now we're entering the Zefferelli Science Wing, which was donated to us in 1986...
Grandfather: Do you teach about dinosaurs in these science classes? Sarah doesn't need that. She knows all about dinosaurs! She knows about brontosaurus, and stegosaurus, and tyrannosaurus rex...
Sarah: * buries face in hands *
Mother: * hushing grandfather * I'm sorry about that, we watched a Discovery Channel special last night...

this happened to a kid in my grade. all his family goes to the same school, and they often donate to this institution. for the sake of the story, i am going to rename the family as the Smiths.

the tour guide was showing them the assembly room, and as they walked in the door, there was a sign that said the Smith Auditorium. so, the tour guide said, “that Smith kid” (referencing the older brother of the touring applicant) “he really is a weird one”
the family then informed him that they were, in fact, the Smiths.

…awkward

when I first toured Andover, at the beginning of the summer, our tour guide was a graduating senior who was soooooo cute. He started talking about sports, but me and the friends I was touring with don’t really like sports so he was like “Oh great!!! I don’t like sports either, thank goodness, I can just tell you about the theater program.” It was really fun. When we got back to the car, we found him on Facebook.

when me and my friends went to northfield mount hermon (we hadn’t scheduled a tour), we basically we’re running around campus, trying to break into any open buildings. since summer school was going on, a couple of the buildings and dorms were open, so we snuck into a hogwarts themed dorm. we started looking around, but then we started freaking out because someone had seen us. we had no idea what to do because we didn’t want to get into trouble, so i think i remember trying to hide, which ended in failure. then we confronted the person who saw us and explained everything and they basically ended up taking us on a tour…

oh and at choate my tour guide told me that the dining hall kinda looked like the hogwarts dining hall, and when i went in it, i was like, “HOLY CRAP IT IS LIKE HOGWARTS!” really loudly.

■■■■■ thats crazy;) -helicopterRAWR

you’re my hero helicopter ;)

which dorm, helicopter? Was it Crossley?

hogwarts themed dorm? that’s awesome!

haha your too kind! really~ lol

keylyme: I have no idea… I just remember it was a really new and nice girls dorm.

well a little story for my tour:

My mom doesnt speak english so she was completely silent during the entire tour. Our tour guide was American Chinese and she admitted her inability to communicate in Mandarin beforehand. The tour guide was walking insanely fast and my mom was wearing high-heels (i know, bad choice), so my mom just whispered in Mandarin to me: “OMG shes walking so fast - she must have picked up the skill cuz the campus is huge!!!”

our tour guide turned around and said: “ok i’ll slow down a bit, sorry~”

AWKWARD.
