Hi,

I was wondering if the tower dorm is primarily for freshman students. Also, are most of the rooms in tower triples? Thanks!!

Hi,

I was wondering if the tower dorm is primarily for freshman students. Also, are most of the rooms in tower triples? Thanks!!

Except for a few smaller dorms (Lake House, Spanish House, the French House, etc.), which do not have first-year students, and Dower, which is basically first-years and sophomores, all of the major dorms have students of all years. The housing office actually apportions the rooms such that there is a set percentage of first-years, sophomores, juniors, and seniors in each dorm every year (although the mix in from dorm to dorm might be a little different). Tower has a fair number of first-years and many juniors and seniors; it happens to be a little low on sophomore rooms. I think that all of the first-year rooms in Tower are doubles, which is also generally true in the other dorms. Severence, Claflin, and Stone-Davis appear to house most if not all of the first-year triples–there really aren’t many on campus overall.

Be aware that there are a very few quad rooms in the Tower Complex. If you are assigned to one, you may want to ask for a different room assignment. My daughter got one her first year that was too small for the occupants and their belongings (2 tiny closets for the 4 of them), and it was a nightmare.

That said, there are many wonderfully large singles and doubles on campus, many with interesting room configurations. I only with the housing people did a better job deciding how many women to assign to each room.

I’m an incoming first year, and I heard that the students who say they have nut-allergies are placed in Tower. Is this true? And are they placed in Tower every year, or does the dorm alternate?

You are correct - all nut allergy people live in Tower. On the bright side, there are lots of great rooms in Severance, Claflin and Tower and they are conveniently located to everything on campus. My daughter’s room had a lovely view of the lake and the best sledding hill is right next to Severance.

Not sure it makes sense to alternate due to the risk for people with serious nut allergies, right?

Okay, thank you so much Irner!! And you’re right, that wouldn’t make sense! Would you happen to know if they still honor roommate requests even if you have to be placed in Tower due to nut allergies?

I would expect that if you both make your preference to room together clear, and your friend expresses a wish to room with you in a nut-free dorm, that you’d have a good chance.

Besides, the Tower Complex is the largest on campus, so your odds are good.

Thank you, Irner.

i’m in tower court west 353 and it’s a double…does anyone know anything about that room? view, size, furniture set-up, etc? it’s the same layout as 303 i think.

furniture set-up is relatively similar for every room (and they are not that hard to move). Each person gets a desk, a bed, drawers for clothes. I think this room has only one closet, but that’s true of most of doubles, except the ones in new dorms. I’m not sure of size (many tower doubles are decent), but I’m pretty sure it’s facing the lake! Tower’s really nice location and very popular among students, so you are in luck.
