I've never heard of a "tower fan" but the hubby says this is the way to go for a dorm room. I googled them, and they do seem to make sense (take up less room). Anyone with experience or advice on the best kind of fan for a dorm room? Thanks!

i suggest them
we don’t have ac in my house, so we stick bowls of ice in front of them or box fans to create “redneck” ac…but tower ones work best

Well, we actually DON’T have AC in our house either…we do have an attic/house fan, and that really seems to do the trick for us. We don’t use any other type of box or oscillating or whatever fan. Again, my husband seems to think a tower fan would be best for the dorm, and it sounds like you agree. Nothing like some redneck AC!!!

Thanks for the info.

Yes, D1 has a tower fan, quiet and powerful. She likes it.

I like it also for the reasons suggested; ours is oscillating. DH says it’s not v powerful… but that may just be his perception or the particular model we have.

S bought a tower fan for his dorm room and says it’s better and quieter than the oscillating ones. It’s now back home, but it has been raining for the last month and not hot enough to try it out. :)

We have AC and several tower fans that we move around as needed. They take up less space and can be stored out of the way easily when not in use. One even has a remote control, which is handy for turning off at night when it gets/seems cooler.
