So I was hunting around looking at college Track results and realized that I would be one of the fastest mile runners at Bowdoin (as school I will likely apply to next year when I am a senior). Would this help me get into the school?

PS: How would I go about contacting the coach to see if he would want me/be able to help me get admitted?

Yes - it will help if Bowdoin is your number 1 choice. The coaches have the right to assign “tips” to prospective athletes that give them a boost in the admission process but they won’t waste a tip on you (because they have a limited number of them) if Bowdoin is not your number one choice (this would be true for all the NESCACs). You start the process by filling out this on-line form:

You might want to contact the coaches at many of the NESCAC schools. my junior D did so over the Thanksgiving break and received a few great responses from coaches. other schools sent no reply or a generic thank you for your interest email…

It was relatively easy to make 1st contact via the online recruit forms.

You might want to read through some of the threads on the Athletic Recruiting forum located under College Admissions. Many experienced parents of athletes and athletes themselves post there and are happy to answer questions. Good luck!

hey so I was a xc/track recruit at a bunch of d3 schools (Mostly NESCAC’s) and I think the general consensus from coaches is that it will only help you if you apply ed. Otherwise, they usually can’t give any help. Just my experience and not sure about bowdoin, but that seems to be the way it works. And just email the coach. Sometimes it takes a couple days to get a response, but that is definitely what you should do.
