Daughter who is a Sr at a private Catholic high school provided her college list yesterday … I feel the list is too long with almost 12 schools as maybes and 9 of the 12 schools we have visited.
25.6 200 meters & 58.1 400. Also daughter has player basketball since 6th grade, but now wants to only run in college.
She is looking at Biology with Studio Art minor. Interest physician assistant/ ortho, drawing & painting
ACT 25/ no prep work. Has had tutor last 6 weeks will retake in September.
GPA 3.6…Class Rank 62/220.
I have another daughter at ND this year.
I am looking for schools known for art talent awards, leadership awards, athletic awards with solid coaching. The 25 ACT really hurts most chances of merit.
We are in the midwest and daughter would like to have other comparisons in D3, and NAIA. Possibly out East, Florida, TN, Georgia.
Varska and others: I am hoping I could get feed back on my post above. Academics in my opinion are primary consideration over her running. I would like daughter to have some skin in the game especially with a mid range act of 25. She does not take standardized tests well as she tends to work too slowly. She has been with ACT prep for several weeks and believes her score should significantly improve.
I would like to see her at a college with enrollment under 8000. She is in her sisters shadow of acceptances to 8 really great schools and final selection of Notre Dame.
We are looking for schools that have a fine arts program minor- drawing, painting & ceramics with a biology major.
A solid program where she may not be the number 1 runner, but she would be able to contribute right away… She likes Lewis University but I really want her to have other d2 or D3 schools to compare to…
Her Act is what would hold her back from Wash U… She is a URM, but not sure this makes any difference at d3 schools…
Hi Wiseacre - unfortunately I don’t have a lot of knowledge about strong fine art programs in the D2 or D3 world. I would start by taking her list of schools and looking up the conference meet results to get an idea of where she may be able to contribute athletically.
Below is a link to a search engine I have found to be pretty useful. It’s not the greatest, but it’s a good starting point to help you identify colleges and universities by location, size, academics, level of participation, field of study, etc. Maybe it can help you get started.
There are a lot of smaller schools that offer direct entry to their physician assistant programs. She should look at them. The programs are 5 years. Most are in the state of PA and are catholic.
Daughter will retake ACT Saturday. She has started to receive mailings, texts, and emails on Facebook from several coaches. The ACT makes her nervous as she hates rushing. The ACT tutor really has helped her understand how best to utilize her time. Daughter is open to anywhere in US… We have visited 10 schools to date on our own and she believes she will apply to 5.
