Hi I'm a junior in high school with a current 3.2 (86.89) GPA. I run track, specifically the 1600 meter and my mile time is a 5:45. Last meet, I ran a 1200 with a time of 4:05 which means ideally, my mile time would be a 5:28 (I haven't timed myself for the mile since that meet so I don't know if this could be achieved yet).
What are my chances at being recruited to a D1 school? Does anyone know what the standard times are for being recruited? Ideally, I would like to be recruited to UCLA, Duke, Georgetown, Temple, Syracuse, Villanova, or Virginia Tech, just to name a few. I know this might seem impossible because my GPA is so low, but I am counting on my essays and glowing letters of recommendation to help me. Additionally, I didn't do too bad on my SATs (2200). I am also a girl scout and am currently working on my gold award project. I have done a lot of volunteer work, and was a 7 year member of a girl choir that toured the country.
Is it really impossible for me to go to any of the schools I listed? Could I be recruited for track? Does anyone know the standard times for being recruited? Please comment any advice!! Thanks for reading this post! Your feedback is greatly appreciated :)

kliitat(?), the schools you mentioned would probably want to see 5:10 or better in the 1600 , with 4:55 being preferred. But the only way to find out for sure is to send a few emails to coaches. Good luck!

My D is a Sr and has been recruited by UCSB. She is a high jumper with 4.63 GPA.

Your times are probably going to have to improve a good bit to be recruited by the schools you mention. I’m in the Southeast and seeing bigger D1 schools (not necessarily top programs) signing girls in the 4:55-5:05 range for the 1600, these same runners are also very good 800 and 3200 runners. Seeing girls in the 5:20-5:30 range getting very small partials to lower tier D1 schools. Not saying its impossible, but work on your times and your GPA to give yourself the best shot.

You should look at two places to get an idea of if your times are going to get any interest. First, look at the athletes currently on the team. Second, look at the times it takes to be competitive in their conference. Coaches need to bring athletes in who they think can score points at the conference or national level.

It sounds like you are improving a lot going into outdoors this year. I would still contact the coaches at these schools as it is clear you will be improving.

Sorry to break it to you but your not going to get recruited from any of those schools unless you get your time down. Your going to have to get your time DOWN A LOT. I just looked at the Duke Track and Field website, and a lot of those girls are running the 1500 in 4:35-4:50. Your going to have to get your time to sub 5 in the mile if you want a better chance of getting recruited.
