Heres my problem. I am trying to meet the Priority Deadline of December 1 for freshmen applications. I sent in my online application last night (11/26). I sent in my SAT scores (directly from collegeboard.com) a long while ago. My application should be fine. Pretty much everything is covered except my transcripts. My school has yet to send my transcripts. Heres my question, does the UW have to RECEIVE my transcripts by Dec 1 to meet priority deadline or can the transcripts be POSTMARKED by Dec 1 and still be considered for priority deadline?

postmarked...and the school's shouldn't be sending them....you should collect them all (sealed and official and all) in one large envelope and send it directly to the U and your envelope needs to be postmarked by the first.....by the way unless you attended more than one high school in Washington state you don't need transcripts

Well I'm out of state. And I applied online so I have nothing to collect which is why I chose to have the school send them for me. Unless, I'm missing something?

Oh...that will work then. See, I attended 1 Washington high school but I was concurrently enrolled in 2 other programs to get my PE and Health credit done...so I had 3 sets of transcripts and I had to collect them all and so forth.

Even if you are out of state, you shouldn't have to send transcripts unless your school has a wierd grading system...right? I am out of state and not sending anything besides my SAT scores and the online app, both of which are done...

Hmmm.

"1. The following applicants SHOULD NOT send high school transcripts NOW. (See below for a list of the exceptions, i.e., the situations in which applicants DO need to submit transcripts.)

* Most applicants who attend only one Washington high school do not need to submit transcripts at the time of application. During the review process, should the Office of Admissions determine that the high school transcript is needed in a particular case, the applicant will be contacted.
* All applicants who are admitted and confirm their enrollment will be required to submit official final high school transcripts at the end of their senior year. Verification that all admission requirements have been satisfied will be confirmed at that time, and the offer of admission will be withdrawn if important discrepancies are discovered."

If you read the first *, it says "one WASHINGTON high school". So I'm assuming that only applies to in-state applicants attending highschool in WA.

I am confused now, if any one has more info on this, please help me. Do I need to send transcripts? I am in Hawaii, do not and did not take college courses. My school is based on a 4.0 grading system. However AP classes offer 5 point A's (and I'm taking 2) so I don't know if that makes a difference.

But if you read further, and see the section on who SHOULD submit transcripts, it doesn't say anything about being out of state...

College enrollment. If you are a freshman applicant who has been enrolled in college course work any time before your senior year of study, you must submit official transcripts from each such college attended by the application closing date. This includes course work completed during summer school, or through distance or online learning, Running Start Programs, or any other dual-enrollment programs in which you have been awarded college credit by a regionally accredited college or university.

Attended high school outside the U.S. If you attended any part of grades 9-12 outside the U.S., you must submit your official high school transcripts, along with official English translations of these transcripts and these must be original records directly from those schools (not just recorded on a U.S. high school transcript).

Homeschooled. Documentation for course work completed through home school education must be submitted by the closing date. Consult guidelines for homeschooled students

Attended high school with nonstandard or weighted grading systems. This includes schools that assign a value greater than 4.00 for an A grade. If you attended high school in California, for example, your school probably weights grades. If you attended a school with a grading system that does not restrict grades to an unweighted 4-point system, you must submit official transcripts by the deadline. Transcripts are also required for other nonstandard systems such as those using a grading scale of 0 -100, e.g., often used in Texas schools. In these cases, ask your high school to include with your transcript: (1) your class rank; (2) the phone number of the counseling office; (3) a key to the grading system; and (4) a school profile, including the percentage of graduating students going to college, mean test scores, distribution of grades, and graduation requirements.

Student athlete. Students who expect to participate in intercollegiate athletics must submit the necessary information to the NCAA Eligibility Clearinghouse and must also submit transcripts to the UW at the time of application.

No longer in high school. If you have already graduated or have left high school with no expectation of graduating, your high school transcript must show all course work completed and must be submitted by the closing date.

It says only if you have a weighted grading system or if you are out of the country...

Whatever, my counselor sent a transcript in October, and I submitted my application 2 weeks ago (about a month after he sent my transcript) and it still hasn't been updated on MyUW status page. My school has kind of a weighted system, as in they use AP/Honors courses in determining class rank, but the GPA is completely unweighted and more or less just regular, so I didn't think I needed a transcript.

Either way, it doesn't sound like they place too much emphasis on transcripts during the application process, so I wouldn't worry about it unless your school doesn't calculate normal GPA on a 4.0 scale.

So you say you didn't send your transcripts, and now you say you did?

Oh well, thanks for the help anyway. And I just found out that since I'm taking AP classes my scores are considered "weighted." Which means I do have to send them. Thanks everyone for the help.

keebah, my counselor sent it a while ago before I realized it wasn't required...they never updated it on my status page though, so I'm just assuming they didn't need it. Whatever, it can't hurt to have one sent I guess...
