Transcript from Juilliard Prep?

Hi guys

Quick question. So I go to a music school (Juilliard btw) for the 6 years now. I am now applying for colleges and Im not really sure if I need to just send my transcript from my academic school or send transcripts from BOTH Juilliard and my academic school? BTW I am NOT applying to music schools/conservatories.

Thanks!

bump any help?

As you’re doubtless aware, virtually all colleges and universities require transcripts from all other higher educational institutions the applicant has attended. Juilliard – obviously a SUPERB school – is fully accredited and it grants degrees. Therefore, why would this general transcript requirement not apply to your Juilliard courses and grades?

The foregoing is my OPINION only; clearly, you should research the requirements of specific the universities to which you plan to apply. However, I really see no fundamental difference between Juilliard and any other extremely selective and highly reputed school.

@Toptier Thanks for your reply. The problem is I was accepted to Juilliard prep at a young age (11). And if you ever get to sit in one of the classes at Juilliard, you will realize that it is literally impossible for students that are 11 to be able to understand anything. I just dont want colleges to see the Bs and Cs when I was at a young age like 11… Would this affect my college admissions even if Im NOT applying to music schools?

Juilliard Prep? http://www.juilliard.edu/youth-adult-programs/juilliard-pre-college</a>? I don’t know how colleges would consider that. I’m going to retitle the thread for you so you can get some better help.

Post #3 was the FIRST time @cottonkk‌ mentioned “prep.” In post #2, I had assumed we were discussing Juilliard, not its prep school. Erin’s Dad has graciously modified your title, so I expect you’ll now receive differing and pertinent advice.

@toptier Yes… I am part of the Juilliard PRE-COLLEGE program. Its Juilliard but its for the people who are under 18. You go there every Saturday and it is one of the most selective programs at Juilliard… the point is Ive been there WAY before I started highschool and certainly dont want college admissions people to judge me based on performances as early as 11…

@Erin’s dad Yes that is the program i am talking about… Thanks for clearing it up for me!

bump… any help is appreciated!

I think if your HS grades are better than your 6th-8th grades, then you should submit. Like the above said, Julliard is a great school and any correspondence from them would be beneficial to your application.

@paintsplatteria Thank you! If I do send my Juilliard transcript, do I also need to have 2 addition recommendations from Juilliard? So like 2 from my academic school AND 2 from Juilliard? Or just my academic school recommendations would be enough?

Two academic recs should be enough.

Definitely recs from some of your core subject teachers from your academic school. However, if there are teachers at Juilliard that can write you exceptional letters, it wouldn’t hurt to send one.

@paintsplatteria thanks so much! I have decided to send my Juilliard transcript. Most of my Juilliard transcript is comprised of As… but I do have a couple Bs, particularly during my freshmen year where I received 3 out of the 8 Bs on the transcript (hey… 6 Bs over 6 years aint too shabby lol). However, I feel that it would be beneficial and help me prove to colleges I am applying to that these Bs do not reflect my playing. I decided to send a professional DVD of me playing my instrument. I am thinking of applying to Brown’s PLME program (ik it has nothing to do with music), but do you think it would be effective in helping me get accepted if I send this DVD?
