Transcript Sent Out Late?

I was planning on applying to Georgetown, but at the end of last year we were released on our holiday break a few days early and I was unable to tell the officials in my school's transcript office that I wanted to apply. It was something of a late decision. I'm afraid that, because of the time it takes to process requests at my school, that my transcript won't be postmarked by the 1/10/09 deadline (this Sunday). If my transcript is postmarked a couple of weeks late, would my still application be considered? This is assuming I submit the application today. I hope it's not too late to apply.

You’ll probably be fine. My own D just decided on an Ivy during the break and that school said “meh, just make SURE your full app is in on time, we can wait a week for the rest”. They HAVE to give a deadline or no one would ever send them. And they WANT them postmarked by then. But they won’t get them all entered for weeks, it’s no skin off their nose to accept your application, fee, and supplementals. They WANT all the good applicants they can get. It’s not optimum, but…I think you’ll be fine. Nothing you can do now anyway. Don’t sweat it.

“If my transcript is postmarked a couple of weeks late, would my still application be considered?”

Why would it be weeks late? Talk to someone in the office and ask if there’s any way you can expedite the process (it should be obvious that sooner is better than later). Assuming everything else is in, it shouldn’t kill you, but make it happen ASAP. You’ll probably be alright, and Georgetown will probably call your school if everything isn’t in and ask about it. They want to get all the info they can, and they won’t throw your file in the trash if a transcript is a little late (mid-February is a different story).

Actually, I was curious as well, and this should brighten your day (night here in New York at the moment - ironic), Gtown has extended their deadline to January 15… This might be due to troubles with postmarking mail before Sunday (Jan 10) - since post offices are closed on the weekends.
