Hello friends ,

I have read a lot of threads on Transcripts but there are some doubts that aren't solved(or i missed them out) in my case . My doubts as follows .

1) My school doesn't provide the class rank . Should i ask for it or is it ok not to mention it (or should i mention it clearly in the transcript that my school doesnt provide the class rank) . Moreover , my 10th / 11th / 12th is taken by the state board so i am given my percentile in that (in comparison to the students in the whole state) , should i mention that instead ? and if yes do i mention that this is in accordance with the whole state ?

2) Should i formulate the transcripts of all the standards in one single page or different pages ? Can anyone please PM me the sample ? there are a lot of samples in google and i have no clue which should i select and which would be suitable for my board (i.e GSEB)

3) The mandatory information of transcripts is name and Date of birth . any more mandatory slots ?

4) should i send the snail mail or my school ?

5) Regarding the LORs , I have one from my school's head mistress ( she also has taught me chemistry) . Should i also give the LOR of the counsellor ? If yes , Should i send both the LORs ? and if the university only requires one LOR then whose LOR should i give more preference to ?

7) and is it ok to snail mail these documents and then fill the common app later ?

8) should my transcripts have the counsellor's sign or the principal's ?(MY school doesnt give much importance to the counsellor!)

PLEASE HELP ME OUT SOOOOON . I am running really late in my paper work :(

In the 4th point , I seriously have no superpowers to send my whole school to US ! ;)

“4) should i send the snail mail or my school should send it instead* ?”

Class rank, if your school does not provide it, skip it. Class rank and percentile helps put your grades in perspective, you vs. the rest of the class/test takers. So if you already have a stellar GPA skip, but if you belong to a very competitive batch then rank and percentile sometimes help to reflect the difficulty level and also a context to those numbers which might be a B/A-…

The Transcript is a single sheet depicting all 4 years of High School grades, makes it an easy a reference. It shows the subjects taken, how many years for each subject, combination of subjects, grades over the 4 years, trend, number of students, percentile…on a single sheet.

LORs - Who… you need to take that decision. As far as I know if your school does not have a counsellor, then a Principal is the counsellor. The LORs are usually requested from the teachers who have taught you most recently and also related to the subject that you are applying for. So that could be one or two. For others the Counsellor or Principal letter is good. The issue with the latter is they do not know students on one to one basis as a subject teacher would. So in that case you may help them with a single sheet synopsis of a list of your achievements both academics as well as outside the class for defence purpose.

All documents that need to be sent by snail mail have to be sent by the school, in a school envelope, signed and stamped by the Principal/Counsellor and with a school seal.

Thanks a lot anialways for clearing my doubts so well :)

regarding the class rank , i have a great score(really great) but then in 11th i have just an average of 70% and state(around 1.5 lakh exam takers) percentile 85% . What do you suggest ? Should i mention the 10th and 11th percentile ? Or skip the percentile thing ?(i have percentile of 99.57% in 10th )

And do you or anybody else have any answers for the 3rd and the 7th question ? Can you PM me a sample or maybe the format you have submitted ?

I think go ahead with percentile. Because percentile gives lot more clarity and in your case is quite complimentary as well. Anything factually that helps you showcase you as a better and strong applicant, is a go.

For 3 – good idea to put your applicant id (which is different across the universities you are applying). Colleges usually index based on applicant id, so it is easy for them to find you.

For 7 – the usual order is the common app first because your file will be initialized with that information. If your snail mail comes out of order, it will get put in some other bin complicating the process (in the worst case, requiring a resend).

On rank. I am not clear how you can get a percentile from the state. Exactly which state provides this information and where (e.g. state website, or …)? Even if the state provides a percentile, do they do it for 11th? Anyway, lets assume that the state provides a percentile. Then it is a simple matter to loop over all the students in your school to get a local percentile. In which case you DO have a school rank?

As per information I have
you need to report your PERCENTAGE and CLASS RANK

reporting 99.57% percentile is like reporting half of the information
also , state percentile is not asked as far as i know …you just need to report how well did you perform compared to your school students

@Anialways - I have a doubt

You said that All documents need to be send sealed with school stamp
IS this the same thing this year too ? The Common App 4 has turned COMPLETELY ONLINE and I believe everything has to be turned in online.

Everything that you can upload, do that. Just double check as International Applicants do need to send documents by snail mail. But you can check with each of the colleges on your list if you need a clarification. One portion of CommonApp that I recall that went by post was the International Supplement, along with Transcript that needs to be verified by your current school.

But nothing better then sending everything online. Lesser paper the better for sender as well as the recipient.
