"This past year, we had over 575 transfer applicants; we admitted 125."

Thats 21 percent which seems low for the Uncommon App - are they bluffing to discourage apps? Isnt the freshman acceptance rate at 35 percent?

Actually I read that the transfer acceptance rate was 12%...according to college board.

That's not low. Transfer rates are usually lower at good schools like UChicago.

A few years ago the transfer rate was above 25% for the Univ. of Chicago.

i know they are typically lower at comparable institutions but the uncommon app is self-selecting so uchicago gets higher acceptance rates all around...

what I'm mainly referring to is not the overall number but more so how much lower it is than the freshman acceptance rate...

and those figures are from their admissions website so

From what my cousin experienced when she was applying as a tranfer, yes. Very few people 'give up' their spots at UC and so there are less spots for transfers. I don't know the exact number but it is definitely quote a bit less than the freshman acceptance rate..

Don't get discouraged though, still apply!

Transfer admission rates are generally lower than freshman admission rates at most colleges

I'm just saying that 12% is what I got from the college board. It doesn't surprise me the slightest that UChicago has a low acceptance rate. Retention rates are going up...it seems.

and im assuming all the applicants have somewhere between a 3.8 and 4.0 at their current school.. how encouraging...

Yes, retention rates are definitely going up. In addition, we've significantly over-admitted for the freshman class the past few years, so transfer admission percentages are obviously going to plunge.

Is a gpa just under 3.0 (first sem) basically a no-go for transferring to UofC as a sophomore?

I thought a certain number of spots are reserved for transfers regardless of freshman admissions. I would think the reason for the declining rate has to do with the increasing number of transfer applicants.

can i please get a list of the schools that accept the most transfer students (specifically from a community college)? I am a student at OCC in california and want to go to any of the top 50 school in the states. if any one knows about affordable international schools, that would also be helpful
