This can take a long time a guess. I waited for a reply from LSE for a similar question…it took them four weeks! Maybe they are discussing the issue at hand, who knows.

Haha, true :D

Still waiting :(

So the official answer finally came. It seems as tough they did indeed discuss over this matter before releasing an official answer (I assume this because the answer I got is nowhere to be found in the admissions page).

The answer said: “If you study part time during that year or do not complete that year, you may still apply to Harvard as a first year applicant.”

Hope I tell you! There still is hope. If you apply this year as a freshman and do get admitted by April 1 or March 31 you could drop out of your current college and thus not complete your first year and consequently you are eligible for enrollment at Harvard.

Woo! :D

That is fabulous news!!! Thanks a lot for writing directly to admissions office for a clear-cut statement.

Greetings from Germany

Why would you expect a different result from the second freshman application if all you did in the intervening year was enroll at some other school and drop out before earning any credits?

Spend a year building houses in New Orleans, and you’ll be a stronger applicant the second time around. This is going to make you, if anything, a weaker applicant.

That is very true under the assumption one simply plans to apply “again”, having failed the firs time. In some cases however - like mine - it would not be a “second” application, but the first one. Although I have planned my gap year, I wish nonetheless to educate myself a bit more about some of my passions, and take some classes at a local university. It is not possible to take classes here in Germany, I guess even in entire Europe, if you do not enroll. That is my situation however.

Hanna, the scenario was to drop out if admitted and keep going if rejected. I guess that was obvious but apparently not.

Thank you for the answer! So it means that college drop-outs can not apply if they have at least two semesters grades under their belts?

Correct.
