Transfer Admissions Announcement

"I am sorry to have to report that Harvard College is unable to enroll any transfer students for the next two academic years, 2008-2009 and 2009-2010."

AFTER THEY HAD US APPLY AND GET LETTERS OF RECOMMENDATION AND ALL THAT BS. I am so incredibly mad.

so they had people apply only to be told this...wow that sucks

^^the link if anyone is interested.

i spent an incredible amount of time on that application and i am not exaggerating. i would much rather have been rejected than this i dont think il ever forgive harvard

My sympathies to this year's transfer applicants.

Wow... you'd think they would at least take a few transfers...

^^ or even just reject everyone...but don't tell them that they just completely wasted their time.

colleges seem to be accepting more and more freshman , leaving less room for transfers each year

I feel really terrible for those transfer applicants - the announcement was not timed very well, to be honest.

While Gross said that the number of transfer admittances would be cut in half for the 2007–2008 academic year, he did not expect the number to drop further in following years.

“We always want to have space for some exceptional transfer students,” Gross said.

I think this move is understandable considering the rise in freshman applications this year. I believe Harvard got something along the lines of 27,000 freshman applications this year compared to last year's 20,000 freshman applications.

"I think this move is understandable"

Next year, maybe. But after ACCEPTING applications this year? Not cool. I'd be furious. It can take a lot of work to craft essays and all the other app bs while carrying a college course load. Shame on Harvard.

how does that justify it?

I'm pretty upset with this news, being a transfer student myself. I'm sorry to everyone who applied, and I'm sure many of you would have brought a lot to the campus. Our loss.

I do hope they send refunds.

after spending hours and hours...
excluding myself from parties and what not to concentrate and get top grades...spending days and weeks agonizing over the essays, fixing them, tearing them up, and rewriting to give the best..

two issues remain:

1.) having the Dean say there "will always" be transfer spots open, and then dropping this on us.

2.) the 'other' fees that are not refunded: SAT sending fees, postage, etc.

Wow! That's cruel. I'd want my money back! Harvard is rich enough to not only refund every applicant but also pay for the transcripts and SAT scores...

I didn't apply, but I want you guys to know I'm sorry. I am so, so sorry. That has to be utter misery.

That's absolutely terribly. I am very sorry to everyone involved, and quite embarrassed that a school I know and love acted in such an inconsiderate manner. I think you should all at least be entitled to your money back...

its beyond ridiculous.

As a transfer student who dedicated sooo much time and energy to transfer I can begin to understand how you are feeling and it must be absolutely awful. I'm sure a lot of people dedicated endless amounts of time and energy to this just to find this out. This was an absolutely ridiculous thing for a school to do. Shame on them. I'm so sorry everyone who applied that sux.
