Hello, I am highly interested in USD and would like to transfer to it in Spring 2018. I know I might be among the least eligible to get in due to my low GPA (below 2.5) and only a few extracurricular activities. Nothing is ever impossible especially that I’m willing to do everything I can to raise my GPA and get more involved in community work. Has anyone with low grades/GPA ever gotten admitted to USD? Perhaps they had other aspects that might have helped admissions to disregard the low GPA? Please help!!!
How many transferable units do you have currently?
This is according the USD’s transfer website:
To apply, you are required to be in good standing at your current or most recent institution and are expected to have completed a minimum of 24 semester (36 quarter) units of transferable coursework while maintaining at least a 3.0 cumulative grade point average (GPA).
Admission preference will be given to applicants who have far exceeded the minimum unit and GPA requirements, while also having achieved competitive grades in both English Composition & Literature and College Algebra.
If your GPA is below 2.5, depending upon the # of units you currently have, even getting a 4.0 now until the application deadline in the Fall, will not get you to a 3.0 to qualify you to apply.
Spring 2018 Application deadlines:
Regular Decision: October 1, 2017
Late Decision: December 1, 2017
I would definitely continue to work hard on my GPA, really strive to improve your grades. If you’re GPA doesn’t improve tremendously, I would start doing a ton of community service, start righting a blog about a social issue, start a club that aims to fight the injustices of a certain social issue. USD is all about being a change maker campus and is very interested in students who work to help their community on a local to international spectrum.
