Transfer Application to MIT from Harvard

I am highly interested in applying as a transfer to MIT from Harvard (current freshman). Some of my stats are:

SAT I: 2200
SAT II: 800/770/750 on bio-molecular, world history, united states history, respectively.
HS GPA: 4.64/3.97
bunch of national/international science, leadership, music, and athletic awards.

The problem is that despite coming from Harvard (a reputable school with MIT admissions, at least) I am a non US citizen (but I do reside in an underpopulated plains state in the U.S.). Given these factors, what are my chances of getting into MIT as a transfer?

Why would you want to go to MIT, if you're already at Harvard????????

Harvard and MIT are very different institutions, with a very different emphasis. They are both consistently rated in the top 5 institutions in the country. At that level, the differences are about the style, content, and goal of the education.

People turn down Harvard to go to MIT and vice-versa every year. It is totally logical for someone to consider transferring, although Harvard classes don't start for 3 weeks, so it is puzzling why the OP isn't giving the school a chance.

It's tough to transfer into MIT, but if you want to do it, you should make sure to take the equivalent of the MIT freshman set of classes (2 semesters physics, 2 semesters calc, 1 semester chem, 1 semester biology) and get a high GPA in them.

On the positive side, if you want, you can actually take these courses at MIT, which is a pretty significant advantage (at least in terms of getting credit at MIT) over other transfer applicants.

What are your reasons for transferring? It seems a bit odd that you're already thinking of transferring before you've had a chance to experience college.

Realistically, it is going to be hard, coming from Harvard or anywhere else. MIT has a limit on internationals and takes very few transfers. On top of that MIT admitted too many internationals this year, so they probably won't take any transfers next year.

I suggest you stay where you are and take the courses you like at MIT that you may not find at Harvard. I believe the schedules now overlap better than in the past.

If you really want to really impress MIT Adcoms take Math 55 at Harvard and ace the class. Some MIT students cross register for the class, which is widely known as the hardest freshman math class in the country. On the other hand, that may not be the smartest move for a premed if math isn't your main strength.
