@mjr2013 2 year, but I’m an international student, so despite that they still want scores.
Thank you.
I wonder if I should even bother continuing with my application. There are still a few documents I didn’t send, and I could in theory take the April ACT and send that, but I don’t know if there’s any point in doing that…
Any of you guys still having missing files in the self service portal? Mine sends my final high school transcripts are missing even though they were send out months ago!
@RickMedeiros yes the self service portal still says my high transcript is missing also! everything else is there and accounted for though.
Same here, high school stuff sent months ago and still not marked as received!
Hello all! I am new to cc and applying to a few schools. I figure I might as well post my stats and would love some honest feedback, no matter how harsh. I do not want to have any regrets when applying to schools. So, I am applying to schools that I know are a big reach.
Objective
HS GPA 3.0 – poor, I know:( I explain why in personal statement
MI Community College – 3.84 ( not including Mid-Term report, which is a 4.0)
Large upward trend
Fall 2015 – 3.668 (A- in Introductory french 1, but A in Intermediate 1 and A in IM 2 on MD report)
Winter 2016 – 3.82 (A- in introductory french 2, but A later in Intermediate 1 and A in IM 2 on MD report)
Summer 2016 – 4.0
Fall 2016 – 4.0
Winter 2016 – 4.0 on mid-term report
I have All A’s except for 3 A- and a B- in Fall 2015 in honors comp-1
I received an A in english comp-2.
My course load is very rigorous. It is as hard as it gets for a CC. Several honors courses
A’s in honors micro, honors gov, intermediate french 1, statistics, macro, and several more. I will graduate with an Associate of Arts this semester.
Personal Statement
I poured my heart into it. In hs, both my parents lost their jobs, my home was foreclosed, we relied on others for housing, my family went on food stamps, and I worked at McDonald’s to support my family. I explained how this resulted in my fascination for all things related to government and as a result, wanting to major in poli sci with the intention of becoming a lawyer. I also explained how a higher education will allow me to support my mom. I think it explains my life, motives, and why I am doing what I am doing. TBH very proud of it. Overall 9.5/10 IMO
Supps
I think strong. All were proofread by very reputable people. I used the optional essay to write about my dad who is no longer in my life due to alcoholism and other factors.
LOR-- I have three. One from French, Econ, and head of honors program. I believe they are all excellent.
EC’s – I will only list college.
Work at McDonald’s for several hours a week
Elected president of a club specifically for leadership
VP of an academic club
Volunteer work with Dementia Patients
Very involved in my chabad. I’m very active in the Jewish Community
Leader of Jewish youth group
Research this summer at U of M–Ann Arbor
Applied for FA – Yes
Again, would love feedback, but please do not feel obligated. I realize this is not a chance me thread. Just very nervous and anxious about the transfer process.
MISC
Accepted to Michigan for Fall 2017 and Brandeis for Spring 2017 – they are also need aware for transfers.
Additionally, does it help if my brother is also applying and has already been admitted?
@Goingforclacking IMO you are in all likelihood going to get in. You have a great GPA and an even greater story.
Anyone know when we’ll be notified about the decision?
MIDTERM REPORT QUESTION!
What does “course number mean”? For example I am taking Math 147 (a statistics class) which has a Course Registration number of (let’s say) 9899012. Is the “course number” I write on the midterm report 147 or 9899012?
Keep in mind my school does not have mid term grades so I will personally be going to my professors and have them estimate my current grades (which I guess is what I am supposed to do right?) Thanks!
@terr24lr
I see you asked this on the Columbia thread as well.
Some advice I would give for this is to just have the professor decide for each one. The course number does not really matter as much as the name of the course. What I did was just have each professor fill the form out how they saw best.
If you really care about making sure 1001% that you are getting the correct course number, then I’d suggest either going to your university’s registrar office, or calling up brown or columbia to ask them.
Please chance me!

@Gdawg30 thank you for your opinion! I think Brown is such a longshot, but there is no shame in applying. Regardless on what the decision is, I will have piece of mind. There are so many amazing applicants that I’m sure do not require aid. I believe whatever happens is for a reason. Also, I am tri-lingual. I do not know how much that helps. Thank you for your remarks.
@greysanatomy3113 You are a very competitive applicant. I would be surprised if you are not admitted. If there is a weakness in your app, it would be explaining why you are leaving the best economics program. What will Brown, Dartmouth, and Columbia provide? My friends at UChicago love it. One is actually a freshman econ major!
@Goingforclacking Wow I have read your stats on 12!! different threads. How have you conveyed to all those schools that their college is the one?
@firstleague yes, I applied to several schools. It’s mostly because of my mom’s encouragement. Believe me when I say that tens of HOURS went into each app. I tried to make each supp essay unique to each school. I always asked myself if this essay could be used for another school. If the answer was yes, I knew I had to make a few edits. I started this process months ago. My brother is Val of his hs class and is applying to several schools as well. I figure if he can do it, then so can I! I know I applied to a lot, but like I said, I do not want to have any regrets. I know how unlikely it is that I will be offered admission. I’m not dumb (not in any way insinuating that you called me that) but I never want to wonder “what if.” Sorry for the long post.
@Goingforclacking That’s the same thing I say when people ask me why I applied to ten schools. You can never know unless you apply. Even if every reach school rejects me and I end up at Michigan, then I know for sure Michigan was where I was meant to be. No harm in that discovery. But I know I won’t be saying “what if” one, five, ten, fifty years from now.
Did anyone else get an email today saying they were missing materials? I checked my online portal as it instructed, and it lists everything as having been received. Weird.
I emailed them back.
Yes, same here @mjr2013. I still have to respond.
Could very well be a mistake sent to the entire transfer pool @MysteriousDude … they haven’t replied yet, but those mistakes are pretty common I’ve heard.
