Transfer Chance from Boston University

WM just finished 1st semester at BU Arts & Sciences with a 3.6gpa. SATs were 1300 (700M/600V). SATII's: 680MathI and 650 US History. Not sure if it even matters, but will not be applying for fin. aid.

Any thoughts on my chances of admission to either ILR or Arts & Sciences?
Thanks very much for all responses.

better apply to ILR much better chance 20%?
arts and science is like 10% haha
these are general stats. duno about ur chance. higher sats probably
30-40%?

your gpa is on the low end for both, but with a 3.6 you could maybe have a chance at ILR if you wrote some killer essays. make sure you have the prereqs completed.

What about if I applied to College of Human Ecology instead of Arts & Sciences? Would my chances increase?

ILR might be interested. But a 3.6 at BU isn’t exactly something to write home about. You would need As in econ, statistics, and writing.

Isn’t BU notorious for grade deflation though, so 3.6 is probably pretty respectable.

Yes ND09, BU is known for its grade deflation and I’ve been told that the 3.6 is pretty respectable.

Out of curiosity, are you at ND?

Nevermind - I just noticed you are at Cornell.

i thought BC was known for grade deflation?

anyway, it doesn’t matter. there are kids from other ivies looking to transfer from one ivy to another and even with a 3.5/3.6 they’re being told they don’t really have a good chance. so, write good essays and that could help make up for your gpa (it certainly helped me). also, since you’re a first year, your HS stats will still matter and your SATs and SAT IIs are low. what was your HS gpa? ILR, CAS, and CHE are all really different. what major would you be applying for in CAS or HumEc?

Above poster, it’s BU, not BC, but thanks for your thoughts. Not sure which major at Human Ecology but the college, in general, is of interest.

I didn’t think many of the other Ivies even took transfers anymore (ie., Harvard, Princeton)??

oh okay, thanks for correcting me. and only harvard and princeton don’t take transfers.

i’m in humec, so i guess ask me if you have questions lol but seriously, ILR, CAS, and CHE are pretty different. lots of different majors and they focus on different things. what’s your current major? if you tell us, we might be able to suggest some similar/related majors
