Transfer Chances for a current CSUF Student?

I am currently a sophomore at Cal State Fullerton on track in hope for a Musical Theatre BFA. After much reflection however, I most likely am going to switch to just a BA in Theatre, so I’m also possibly looking into transferring to either UC Irvine or UCLA.

I realize that coming from a CSU, it makes it a bit more difficult to transfer to a UC… but what exactly are my chances to get into either of these schools? To get ahead I also took some CC classes on the side… it was recommended by our professor at CSUF, but I’m not sure how this will play in if I’m looking to transfer.

Major: Theatre
College GPA: 3.85
CSUF Total Units: 79.5
CC Units: 9
AP Credit for AP Language and Composition

Extra Curricular Activities:
Drum Corps International
CSUF Showcases
Volunteer Ballet Assistant
Along with MANY extra curriculars from high school…(should I still be listing those as well?)

bump

How many CSUF units are upper division?

I don’ know anything about theatre programs, but here are UCLA’s stats: https://www.admissions.ucla.edu/prospect/adm_tr/Tr_Prof14_mjr.htm#TFT

@luckie1367 I have only taken one upper division course, so 3

Also another thing I was a little concerned about is that at CSUF I wasn’t required to take English because I passed my AP exam (with a 3). Both schools I’m hoping to transfer to require scores or 4 or 5 for class credit, so will I also need to take an English class in order to transfer?

I believe this type of major is not so heavily GPA-oriented, but is hugely dependent on your audition or portfolio. So we really could not give you any advice as to your qualifications.

One AP exam score of 3 will not fulfill both English courses under any circumstances, and if the score needed is 4 for just one course, you won’t have any completed. You will need two English courses for minimum eligibility, so you need to get that squared away.

Assuming you’re trying to fulfill Breadth, yes, a 3 is insufficient for clearing either/both English course(s). You need to take two English Composition courses. The exam WILL give you unit credit, though (8 quarter units I believe).

You may want to double check regarding whether UCLA/UCI accept a 3 for English courses - I remember reading that all UC’s other than Berkeley accept a 3 for part of the R&C requirement, but I may be wrong. If they do accept a 3, then all you need is one English Comp course.

Darn okay… ):

You could look into taking a late start or quarter system online English class at a CC. Foothill/De Anza probably have one that will fit the bill. (Eng 1A & 1B). Then, you can take another in the Spring.

Quarter system classes haven’t started yet (I dunno if CSUF is semester/quarter), so you could probably still enroll and not be far behind.
