IL Community College
3.4 GPA
Mediocre ECs
AA Female
Won't be submitting ACT b/c I have 60+ credits

My GPA is low I know, but I have had an extremely strong upward trend. My 1st semester of college I went away and bombed. I had <1.0. I returned home and went to cc and have had straight A's since. I am hoping I still have a chance.

A few years ago, when touring UIUC, the admissions officer conducting the tour said students who complete the first two years of engineering at a community college with a 3.0 GPA should have no problem being admitted to UIUC engineering as a transfer student.

He also said, though, that transfer students may not have full choice of engineering majors. Depends how many openings are available in each major. Popular programs have fewer openings.

If you have completed the course requirements for transfer as a Junior, it should be no problem. ECs are not really relevant for Transfer admission, just your academic record. Since you have been doing better in your most recent coursework, that will count for a lot. However, I am not sure of how much in demand the MSE program is and whether they have a quota. It is also not clear what kind of Financial Aid you will get as a transfer student. Are you applying elsewhere in the state as well so you have some options?

Thanks for the replies. I am behind in the physics sequence which presents another problem. Will that be an issue? I am also applying to IIT, possibly UIC, and 2 out of state universities, but UIUC i my top choice.
