TRANSFER CHANCES *Unique Scenario*

Hi, I'm a freshman at a top 15 university on the US News rankings, but the scene here really isn't for me. There are also flaws in the offerings for one of my possible choices for a major. What do you think my chances are for transfer?

... looking for some more things to do. I've only been here for a little over a month.

SCHOOLS I MAY APPLY TO:

Harvard, Yale, Dartmouth, Brown, UPenn

(Already have GT status to Cornell)

***Also, should be noted. I was diagnosed at the end of my senior year with a learning dissability. In high school I never had extended time in any of my classes or on any of the standardized tests (which you may have noted were a bit sub-par). Now I have all the accomodations I need and everything is going so much better. Do you think I should retake the SAT's or ACT's? Or should I make this "hardship" of pushing through high school with a learning dissability a part of my story? ... I still did do well and landed myself at a top university despite everything. I don't want to turn a dissability into an excuse, but it could make for an interesting essay topic? Any suggestions?

I know that just made my post so much more complicated. So... what do you think? Do I have a shot? Any suggestions for how I should go about this?

It's hard to say without knowing your GPA where you are. Also, you need to have excellent recommendations. Your high school record will be important given your freshman status, and unfortunately it's lackluster (though your scores are adequate). Doubtful at Harvard, Yale. Reach at UPenn and Dartmouth.

I see your point about the "lack-luster" high school record, but that's where the learning dissability issue plays in.

I'm on track to make Dean's List (at least a 3.6) ... and my GPA could be even higher, but it's too early to count my chickens before the eggs hatch. Certainly at least a 3.6, though, at a top university with some advanced classes.

Do you really think those SAT's are fine? That's kind of what killed me last year -- I was waitlisted everywhere! 6 waitlists! Kids out of my high school with grades similar to mine landed in top 10 schools, but had higher SAT's.

Any other opinions?

B.U.M.P
s'il vous plait

anyone? : )

I dunno much about transfer apps, but your college academics sound great!
Based on H.S. stuff alone, then your chances aren't great, but I'll bet that with the improvements in college, you'll be a great candidate!

does anyone have an opinion on what the prospects look like for the schools i listed? i know they're all competitive -

harvard
yale
brown
dartmouth
upenn

The most important parts are your recommendations and GPA. Your SATs are just there to make sure you have the necessary reasoning capacity to work at a given school, which you've demonstrated.

yes, i get that. but does anyone have a perspective on what transfer CHANCES are like for the individual schools i'm interested in? i know there's no magic 8 ball, but ball park guesstimates? knowledge of kids similar to myself who were successful/unsuccessful in the past?
