Does anyone know how easy/difficult it is to transfer into Macalester after freshman year somewhere else. My daughter was rejected last year, probably because of weak grades at the start of high school. She's been on an upward trajectory since -- including all As in her first semester of college. (Her SATs were well within Mac's range.) She's reluctant to try again because she was so disappointed last year, but I'm trying to encourage her. Is it worth a shot?

Yes! Every college loses students the first year for a huge variety of reasons. She could well be a happy newcomer to Macalester this Fall, filling in one of those spots. Tell your daughter not to be shy in calling or emailing her admissions counselor as they are a very nice group and will not be so buried in work when the transfer applications are being looked at.
