Transfer- CMU Art Student Chances

I'm currently a student at RISD hoping to transfer to a CMU's visual communications program.

High School-
GPA- 3.8 with all honors
SATs- 650 math, 710 writing, 800 verbal
ECs- volunteering at a nursing home, several piano awards (including Carnegie Hall performances), volunteering with a music ensemble, president of the literary magazine club

College-
GPA- 3.51
ECs- internal activities coordinator- Asian Association, as. music director- a cappella, volunteering with the recycling program

Do I have a chance based on these stats and a good portfolio?

Not a student, just a parent but here's my take. It all depends on the portfolio, but be aware that the way CMU structures it's programs, you may have to take an extra semester to get all the classes you need for graduation. There is a specific curriculum that builds on the pre-requisites, which is why graduates are considered so well prepared for the workplace. What you have taken at RISD may or may not be transferable. It's a great school, though, so I'm sure you are qualified. Also, there are not a lot of slots open for transfer students, so start working with admissions early.
