transfer credit help

Hi all! Im kind of confused and need some help.. I am currently a sophomore at Vanderbilt University and am thinking about transferring to USC for my junior year. While I love Vandy, and although it is slightly better academically than USC, I have other reasons for wanting to transfer, which I am not going to bore you with.

After completing my sophomore year I will have 90 total credits under my belt: 18 from AP's and 72 from classes I've actually taken here.

My dilemma is that USC's website states under "transfer unit limits" that there is a "maximum of 64 units of credit toward the bachelor’s degree from other accredited institutions."

What happens to the 26 other credits? Are they merely erased and forgotten? Any responses, suggestions, or pieces of advice is much appreciated. Thanks!

You might get subject credit but you won't get unit credits...you can only transfer over two years worth of credits to complete a degree at the university you are transferring to. You can petition to get subject credit for those classes you are not officially getting credit for so you don't have to repeat anything, but those units will not count unfortunately. Good luck!
