Transfer Credits

I took summer courses for college credit at Yale last summer. I received 1 Credit Hour for both Philosophy and Political Science... if I were to sent my transcript to Georgetown would I be able to receive any credit for this? On the Yale website, it says:

Students who wish to transfer Yale Summer Session credit to other colleges and universities are advised to consult with the appropriate academic authorities at their home institutions in advance. One Yale College course credit is the equivalent of four semester hours.

Would this get rid of any gen ed requirements or should I not bother sending my transcript to Georgetown? I'm in the College, if that helps... sorry if it's a silly question, I'm just a bit confused because I know somebody who took the same courses as me was able to get credit at her college...

You should wait until you get to school and find out who your dean is. Although I had already sent in my transcript, there were several classes that I had taken that I had not gotten credit for, and my academic advisor was very helpful in getting me those credits. However, this class might give you credit for your first Philo/Ethics or for a Political Thought class, so keep that in mind when choosing your classes. Other than that, just don’t forget to bring it up when you go in for your four-year plan, or if you need help with registration.

Thank you! I was hoping the class might fulfill some of my Phil requirement at the least, so I was unsure… the classes had all the rigor of a semester-long course, it was just that it was in 5 weeks so I would hope the credit holds. Thank you though! (:

Georgetown can be annoying about fulfilling transfer credits. I took some classes at a top 50 major university that I would say clearly had Georgetown equivalents and 2 of them (3 and 4 credit classes) were not transferred. I’d try but if it doesn’t have a Georgetown equivalent and isn’t 3 credits it is less likely you’ll get credit.

That’s so annoying, but thanks for the heads-up! I’ll give them my transcript once I get on campus (I’ll be there a week early plus I don’t necessarily need the credit right away) but I’m hoping I can at least get credit for the Intro to Phil course… my friend was able to get 8 credits for two courses at GW for her Yale classes so I’ll be crossing my fingers - if not, that’s fine but it would be nice to knock out some requirements! Thanks though, and I’m sorry that some of your credits didn’t go through… I’m sure it’s really frustrating.

I got credits for a lot of things, but htey refused to give me philo because the coefficient wasn’t high enough. If it was only one credit hour, then I don’t know if they will give it to you as an exemption to the intro requirement. They might just give you 1 philo credit hour.
