Transfer essays: Sending customized essays?

<p>"Note: The Common Application essay should be the same for all colleges. Members that wish to review custom essay responses will request them on their Supplement form."</p>

<p>I am aware that the CommonApp says this, but that statement applies to the colleges specifying essays for the applicants and not the applicants.</p>

<p>With that being said, applicants are essentially permitted to send in college specific transfer essays. I see this happen on the forum all the time, so I'm wondering - How does this happen?! </p>

<p>How would one go about submitting a customized essay per college?</p>

<p>To avoid troll accusations, I just want to make it clear that this question is being asked for my boyfriend who is currently in the process of applying to NYU & Columbia as a transfer applicant.</p>
