This past May, I nervously turned down Cal for another school. I have now come to the realization that Cal is where I should've gone. I am not just a home-sick student jumping the gun; it's that my current school is not right for me for a variety of reasons. Would Cal ever let me enroll for spring semester? If so, how would I go about this? Who do I contact and what do I say? Thank you for the help.

Pretty sure you can’t… at this point, I think you would have to wait and apply as a transfer. But UC only wants junior transfers, so you’d have to wait and apply early sophomore year to (hopefully) transfer fall of junior year. If you really hate your school and need to get away from it, the CC route is a good last resort, and you could transfer from there instead. You might be able to find other schools that accept freshman or sophomore transfers.

Before you start trying to transfer, sit down and think through your reasons. Make sure it’s not just a “grass is greener on the other side” kind of deal. What problems do you have with the current school? Will transferring make it better, or will it follow you wherever you go? Sticking it out for a bit (third week of school now maybe?) might also change your perspective.

You could also try calling admissions and begging, I’d say that’s your best bet for getting in for spring, but I think it’s really unlikely to happen.
