Hi everyone! So I was accepted to UC Berkeley for fall 2014 and sent in my SIR. Due to family pressure, I was forced to cancel that SIR in late May and attend a religious university. However, I cannot stand being at my current university and would really like to drop out or transfer somewhere else, and my financial situation has changed so that I would be able to afford to put myself through UC Berkeley. My question is, has anyone heard of someone going to UC Berkeley or another UC for spring semester with a similar situation? I understand that I should have acted differently and looked into deferring or something, but I am wondering if there is any hope of doing this now. Thanks!

You’ll have to apply all over again, but as a junior transfer. http://admission.universityofcalifornia.edu/transfer/

Your only hope of attending in the near future (near future being applying for Fall 2015) is to ask UC Berkeley whether you’d still be eligible to apply as a freshman if you were to withdraw. They say
But I don’t work for Cal so I don’t know exactly what they mean by “have taken”. Do they mean enrolled in courses, or actually completed a semester or more?

If the former, which is what I suspect, then you’ll have to wait until you have enough units to apply as a junior xfer.
