I will be starting the Penn State 2+2 next fall to study Mechanical Engineering, meaning I will be spending the first 2 years at a branch campus (New Kensington, specifically) and then going up to University Park to finish my degree. It seems like a nice program really, and it’s definitely the best for the money as I’ve received a few scholarships and the costs of a branch campus are low too.
I’ve always wanted to go to the University of Pittsburgh, that was always my favorite, but in these days, one must make the best choice financially too.
I’m not afraid, because the way I see it, I can just transfer to Pitt if I don’t like it at Penn State New Ken after the first year.
Is that true? Assuming I keep my transcript fairly strong, will being at a small, obscure branch campus diminish my chances of being able to transfer to Pitt’s main campus after the first year? (Or any other strong school’s main campus, really).
